NEW: UGent offers a post-academic course on offshore wind energy
The marine environment houses an increasing number of emerging, innovative sectors including marine renewable energy. The EU, world leader in ocean energy technology, is on track to produce up to 35% of its electricity from offshore sources by 2050. An sector also important for Belgium as we are currently the 4th country worldwide in terms of installed capacity, and the best is yet to come.
To keep up with this growning sector both in terms of jobs and economic potential eduction is key. This course will offer a thorough expertise and operational knowledge of all phases of offshore wind energy. Course attendees will acquire a broad and up-to-date knowledge regarding technology, financing, safety, security, ecology & boundary conditions of offshore wind farms over the entire lifespan.
The course is divided into 5 modules:
- Module 1: basic concepts
- Module 2: provides a technological basis in the offshore wind packages.
- Module 3: provides an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of offshore wind energy.
- Module 4: covers non-technological topics such as financing, environmental impact and mitigation and legal framework.
- Module 5: combines a prospection beyond the horizon (into current and future innovation in offshore wind) and industry cases.
